The Charge Wizard case study

Background

The Electric Car market is growing rapidly. However, it is difficult for consumers and industry players to keep up.When purchasing an electric car, most consumers want a turnkey home solution.

Challenge

The best charging solution depends on many different components, both hardware and installation related. That’s why consumers look to their car dealers or energy companies for a turnkey solution (who sometimes don’t fully understand this market either).

We needed a tool to help both partners and end consumers go from a no charging setup to a fully installed at-home charging solution, in a few intuitive steps.

Solution

The Charge Wizard -
one of the tools that helps the consumer get the best possible setup for their home charging system.

It can be customized according to the partner’s requirements and brand guidelines.

How it works

A partner (can be a car dealer) starts the configuration.

Together with a customer, they go through the wizard, and make a configuration.

The customer will get a precise quote.

After accepting, an installer will contact them regarding the installation details.

Results

Okay, that seems easy enough.


This will make my life much easier.

These are some of the comments we’ve heard from partners during one of the latest testing sessions I’ve assisted.

We've managed to take a very complicated process, usually involving the help of an employee, and transform it into a wizard, with a few steps that the consumer is willing to go through.

What's next

The Charge Wizard is just one part of the Soolutions ecosystem and it is in continuous monitoring to improve based on user feedback.

The grid connection challenge

Correctly identifying the grid connection type is one of the most important steps in getting the most out of the charging speed.

However, this is also one of the hardest concepts for the end consumer to understand. Is an update worth it? How much will it cost me? What would I get?

So this required a few iterations, each followed by testing and improving.

Keeping track of the selections

At any moment in time, the user can check on their selection and go back to edit any of them. This overview updates in real time.

The progress can be saved and continued at a later time.

Displaying the cost and the estimates is very important for the consumer to make a decision.

The remote inspection

To get a more precise quote, the consumer has to provide some information about their home situation.

They do that by uploading pictures or videos and answering a few questions.

As this requires some attention from the user, we’ve worked on making it more accessible, especially on phone, the main device used for completing this step.
